Supplier Manager

We have an opportunity for a Supplier Manager to join the team in either our London or Glasgow office on a 12 month fixed term contract.

The key aim of the FirstGroup UK Procurement function is to contract with the right suppliers at the right price for the best quality products and services and to ensure the efficient management of the supply base in close alignment with business requirements where there is agreement to do so.

Supplier Management (a combination of Supplier Relationship Management ‘SRM' and/or Supplier Performance Management ‘SPM') is a recognised business process and discipline of working collaboratively with those suppliers who have been identified as important to the success of FirstGroup businesses and to maximise the potential of those relationships.

Key objectives of the role are to identify opportunities and maximise value to FirstGroup through supplier management by working with suppliers and key stakeholders on a range of initiatives to deliver: cost saving and cost avoidance; innovation and business development; service and quality improvement; business simplification and efficiency, and customer of choice benefits.

The role takes the lead for key suppliers determined by the business, with the aim of creating new post contract award value through improved performance, greater efficiency and collaboration. Development of post-contract supplier value improvement programmes and performance measurement – e.g. score carding to improve value is central to FirstGroup procurement strategy. Some pre contract supplier management may be required where there is a business need to do so.

The role will provide the Franchise Bid Teams with information on supply chain design, case studies and similar positive evidence to showcase the value of supplier management in bid documentation.

This role involves interaction with, and the ability to influence, numerous, diverse stakeholders and collaboration is critical to delivery. BS11000 underpins our approach to collaboration with suppliers and the supplier management approach will generate evidence to directly support continuing surveillance visits, assessments and ultimately our ability to retain BS1000 certification.

The role will require travel in the UK. The expectation would be typically two days per week away from home but may be more or less depending on business requirements. Overseas travel may be required on occasions.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Essential
• Experience of supplier management and knowledge of current best practice
• Experienced practitioner of collaboration, project management and problem-solving e.g. BS11000, Prince 2 and 6-sigma
• Planning, organising, prioritising and facilitation skills
• Analytical and data management skills
• Strong relationship management skills with the ability to engage with every business function and discipline throughout the Group
• Ability to work under own initiative and as part of a team
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, including excellent presentation, influencing and negotiation
• Business acumen and a creative and insightful mindset
• Results focused with ability to identify and evaluate risks and opportunities
• Ability to think and operate strategically
• Leadership with the ability to execute delivery against agreed goals
• Strong commercial knowledge and experience
Desirable
• Experience of Rail industry, or similar
• Knowledge of sourcing and contracting for goods & services through competitive processes, including knowledge of OJEU process and EU Procurement Directives (Utilities)
• Educated to degree standard and/or MCIPS Qualified
