Fleet Engineer – EMU

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Leading Fleet Engineering activities for GWR's Electric Multiple Unit [EMU] fleet including the new FLEX Tri Mode fleet which operate in the Thames Valley. The role will manage the technical engineering and safety requirements of GWR's SMS.
  • Managing technical engineering, safety monitoring, management of change and performance improvement initiatives for GWR''s multiple unit fleets.
  • To ensure that safety related issues are appropriately identified, investigated, and addressed in order to maintain an acceptable safety performance.
  • Representing GWR at relevant industry groups
  • Facilitating the Depot Engineering Managers and their teams in identifying, developing, and implementing appropriate technical and non-technical initiatives to improve performance

You'll need to be:

  • A motivated and committed individual with a proven technical background in T&RS preferably with experience of electric traction.
  • Self-motivated with strong interpersonal skills and able to effectively lead both the team reporting to the role and ad-hoc inter directorate teams to identify and resolve safety issues whilst developing reliability improvement plans
  • A qualified technician in railway T&RS maintenance and repair having served a recognised engineering apprenticeship or qualified to NVQ level 3 in engineering competencies
  • Flexible and able to demonstrate experience of working independently and as a team

As a minimum you'll need to have:

  • A good understanding of Railway Engineering standards and approvals regimes
  • Effective verbal, written and IT skills.
  • Technical knowledge of Multiple Unit fleets
  • A good understanding of GWR's and the wider industry safety management systems

Additional Information:

This position is available as a six-month secondment.

The successful candidate will need to be flexible in approach to work and be able to work varied shifts and/or provide out of hours attendance. On occasion you may be required to work away from home location for short periods of time.
